After installing build 1903 but winver still shows build 1809 ???

Hi guys, I would like to try windows build 1903 so I downloaded the "MediaCreationTool1903.exe" file. Everything went smoothly during the installation process. But after the installation I checked via winver it still shows build 1809. So how can I install build 1903 on my pc? Thanks...

Where were you trying to download 1903 from ? It clearly states "Windows 10 October 2018 Update now available" on the Windows 10 download page.

The new update has not been released to the general public yet, won`t be out til May. So apparently you wiped out your system for nothing. Let`s hope you created an image or you have 10 days to revert back to what you had.

I got an email today saying it`s available to insiders. Are you an Insider ?

This is strictly just my opinion but.........

You do not want to install the new update for at least 3 or 4 months. There is no reason to rush it if what you have is working perfectly fine.

There seems to be information missing form your initial post.
    - Where did you get the v1903 MCT from?
    - Does your use of "installation" just refer to the MCT or did you then go on to download the ISO to which it would try to refer you?
    - You do realise that installing the MCT does not change your version, that it is only an interim step not the update itself?

That would be from the widely publicised 'leaked' link to download the 1903 MCT from Microsoft. I downloaded it too....

...but Microsoft have now blocked access.

However, the 1903 MCT requires a second file in order to make 1903 media or to upgrade to 1903 before the official release. The MCT is only one half of the files you'd need. The other half is a 'products.xml' file that defines the esd files to be downloaded - and the one for 1903 hasn't been leaked. You need the .xml file inside a products.cab and then use the MCT's /SelfHost option so that it uses your local copy instead of getting one from the servers.

Run on its own, the 1903 MCT will download its products.xml from the update servers. The currently available products.xml is for 1809, so the 1903 MCT makes that.

Yes, That's the MCT file I downloaded. So is there a way to install build 1903?
@Bree, just read your link. So it seems there is no other ways to install build 1903.
Luckily, I always make a backup image before any update/ upgrade.

Would be easier just to join Insider program.

For the MCT, only if the products.xml for 1903 ever gets leaked. I have been keeping my eye on previous known sources for such leaks and none have found it (yet).

You could always join the Insider release preview ring, of course. Non-insiders could also try to get an image from UUDUMP.

Well, you have just unintentionally done an in-place repair upgrade for 1809, which is no bad thing and can often fix lurking problems. I know it wasn't what you wanted though

yup MS removed access to the 1903 MCT and will repost it in late May which will include the updated products.xml file

most likely the public release of 1903 will definitely have a higher build than 18362.1

I'm finished beta testing 1903 (build 18362.53) since I did got that one from a UUPDUMP and created a multi-edition AIO image containing not only Home & Pro but also the higher editions like Education & Enterprise
