Windows 10 Installation Stuck At 89%...

My Windows 10 installation has been stuck at 89% for about 3 hours now. If I reset the PC via the case button would it mess up anything?

If you have a backup image then you can abort the upgrade at any time.
If you do not have a backup image then it is best to let the upgrade run overnight.

Unexpected problems with boot failure and operating system and/or registry can happen when interrupting an upgrade.

If after many many hours you likely have no viable option then you can abort the upgrade if necessary.

If you can view an upgrade failure message and code that would help with the troubleshooting.

If the upgrade works then your are set.
If the upgrade fails then run setupdiag and post the results into the thread using a share link: one drive, drop box, or google drive

I already had W10 on my machine. I was just reinstalling to help clear up some issues I am experiencing.
I checked this morning and it’s still stuck at 89%.
I’ll let it run all day today and see what happens.

It's unlikely to get any better. Do you have a image backup?
If it was my system, I would drop power via the power switch then power on again and hope for the best.

When this is over, the first thing you need to do is backup your current install. The best way to do this is to use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image backup to an external hard drive. If you don't have an external hard drive now is a good time to get one as regular backup should be a part of your normal process. You can get a 1TB external hard drive for $60 (less if on sale).

Thank you for the recommendation. That’s a really good idea actually. I will purchase a external HHD sometime in the near future.

Thank you. I ended up rebooting the PC and started the process again. It worked the second time.

    Glad to see the progress.

This a link in case you ever need to restore a Macrium backup image:
Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

There is a Ten Forums forum for backup and restore:

Hi, the duration of upgrades has been discussed at length at various times. E.g.
How long should preparation for upgrade take?
How long does the 1903 upgrade take using Windows Update?
Windows 10 feature update very slow or stuck
Upgrade from 1809 to 1903 seems to be in a loop

Best to wait- may take hours in some cases, though this is not what you should normally expect.

Did you disable or uninstall any 3rd party security software?
And do you have a disk image created before you started the upgrade (e.g. Macrium reflect - free/paid), just in case?

Noted you have posted the same question in another thread.

Please don't do this, else you will take up resources on the same question by different contributors and perhaps be given parallel and conflicting advice.
