    windows boot manager problem

Hi! I actually have 2 problems that i might need help with.

1st - I have an internal HDD where i just keep my old files, suddenly it stopped working and it hangs my computer whenever i try to access it. It gets read by the Bios and "this pc" but when you try to click it to see the content/properties it just hangs for a couple of minutes then displays that you can't access this drive. Under drive management it somehow appeared as "RAW"

2nd - since this drive is failing, My boot time have gone slow. I tried to remove this drive and the computer wont boot even tho the OS is not installed on that drive. I checked and saw that the "Windows boot manager" is on this drive. Is there a way for me to move this windows boot manager to the drive C? It boots somehow when the drive is attached but it is super slow in comparison to the previous boot time when the drive was working fine before.

any help / insight on this matter is greatly appreciated! thanks in advance

    Hi @lethaldj13

1st problem, please check the health of your disk, either with hdtune or aida64 / other utility.

2nd problem, might be harder to transfer your boot manager from 1 disk to another.
It might be possible to do this, but most likely very
troublesome and might result in system instability.
Probably easier to reinstall windows on a disk that's healthy.

the HDD where my windows is (C:) is indeed a healthy new hdd. I just have no clue why my boot manager was sent to another drive

I'll go check out the health of the disk Thanks !

I suspected hdd damage but just to be sure,
please check your drive with CrystalDiskInfo and see what cdi says.

One possible reason as to why boot manager was installed on a different drive is,
if your primary disk that you install windows on is not set to drive 0 in bios.

You could try to clone your windows installation with Macrium Reflect
And put it back on another drive. :)

Yes. That is correct. If that doesn't work then we might have to manually set that partition as active. I'm not sure the the bcdboot command will set the partition active or not.

i managed to restart and set the HDD as the 1st boot priority, It just went on an endless loop of booting in on a blackscreen then restarting.

i managed to boot on my windows however! (booting on the broken HDD with bootmanager)

how do i set it as active partition ?

    thanks for the advice !

ok i re-seated all the connections on all the hard drive and removed the broken one. it now works without that drive.

thanks for the help ! i have no clue what happened but it suddenly worked !
