    Windows 10 Upgrade

I have 3 pc's with Windows 10 Pro 64 on them and one with Windows 8.1 Pro. Is it too late to upgrade that one to Win 10 Pro and if so what would be the process.

    Hi neverready

First off take an image with a tool like Macrium Reflect. Test the boot media you create for any tool.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

With backup done follow this tutorial. It may not work but was working a month ago.

Hello, MS is still apparently allowing people to upgrade.
    Please see:
Upgrade to Windows 10 | Tutorials
which I've found for you from the extensive Tutorials section:

Windows 10 Tutorial Index | Tutorials

You can also download an iso manually, and then follow this procedure:
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade | Tutorials
    from step 4

Bear in mind upgrades may fail- and may not be offered normally by Windows update to PCs deemed unsuitable.
Perhaps Windows update isn't working on your win 8 PC.

Strongly recommended - as Caledon Ken has just done- create a disk image of Windows before starting the upgrade attempt. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free)- its routine use is strongly recommended.

If you download the iso first (or create a bootable installation medium, covered by the procedure I've quoted) you can have multiple attempts without multiple downloads.

Nope. Microsoft still allows you to use the 8.1 pro license when installing Windows 10. It is a part of them trying to decrease pirated software. Even if you do not activate W10, you get a working copy that just does not allow you to change the appearance of it.

If the machine was built for and supplied with an OEM Win 8.1 then it has an 8.1 key embedded in its firmware. A clean install should detect this key and skip asking for a key or which edition to install. The embedded key will activate W10 automatically.

It's a custom build with Keys from old Tech Net Pro days.

Some machines do not automatically activate W10 if installed. If it shipped withHome and you want Pro, you have to enter the pro key. If the motherboard did not ship with a OS, you have to activate with a key.

You might find if it ships with Home key in BIOS and you have a Pro license you will need an extra step.

    This thread outlines it nicely.
