Could this system run Windows 10 Pro, x64?

    Hi all -

I was given a Gateway GM-5260 Desktop circa early 2007 and just thought that if it could run W10 Pro, I could use it for something light.

Here is the system - note that it has 4GB of RAM:

    Gateway GM5420 - DT - Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86 GHz - 2 GB - 320 GB Overview - CNET

    Opinions welcome! Thanks.

Well, it could, but won't be much joy. I did test it on E7200 Core 2 duo with 4 GB few years ago. Did have an SSD though.

Would it run faster than XP?

Don't think so. But it wasn't much slower. E7200 is quite a bit faster, and there was 4 GBs of ram. Wouldn't do it without an SSD.

OK. I'll throw LInux Mint on it. Thanks.

That's what I would do, try it and see what it does. 30 minutes to install and see.
    Go with 32 bit.

It wouldn't hurt to try it and see, you may be surprised

Its cpu is not that much slower a benchmark than my System One below and that runs quite acceptably (in fact, I'm using to post this), your Core 2 Duo E6300 is 1109 vs my Pentium B950 at 1716. It's near enough the same as my Test Machine's Celeron T3100 (System Two) at 1169. I run 32-bit Pro on that, a little slower but not significantly so. It runs 64-bit acceptably too, the main reason I run 32-bit is that it came with 32-bit W7 + MS Office and I upgraded that to W10 and I wanted to keep the Office install.

    Interesting.

OK, I have nothing to lose. If it doesn't work well, Linux Mint will do.

    Many thanks!
