@dlfetters48,
Have you gotten your clean install done yet?
NavyLCDR,
I just now finished my Windows 10 Pro clean install completed. With a program I had on my PC, I tried converting the main hard drive from MBR to GPT and then I tried to install windows. I then got a complaint about the hard drive being GPT and that the install could not continue. I then used a gparted disk and I reformatted the hard disk. I was back and forth a bit, my PC did not like GPT, and then MBR, and so forth. So for aBOUT A DAY AND A HALF i HAD A PC in Limbo. I am not sure what worked, but I do have a fresh copy of Windows 10 on my PC.
I had ordered a USB stick large enough to hold a copy of Windows 10 installation file. Would the installatioon files being on an USB stick open up another menu as to using a GPT disk or a MBR disk? I just checked msinfo32 and it stated Legacy BIOS again. Is there a way that a recovery drive could have been added during the installation? Right now, I only see one partition on my hard drive.
Thank You for All of Your Help
The problem is that it appears you kept trying to install to a drive that had a partition pre-existing on it. If you install Windows 10 to a clean drive that shows nothing but unallocated space with no partitions, initially set to MBR, such as using the diskpart commands:
diskpart
select disk 0
clean
Windows 10 setup will never complain about whether the drive is MBR or GPT. It will format the drive how it wants to and create the partitions that it wants.
