    Can not complete Upgrade

I am using an old computer to text you. My computer downloaded the latest upgrade but it stops at the dos screen to decide to continue the upgrade. But I have no access to the keyboard or the mouse to continue. The key and mouse are functional, as I have checked with other keyboards and mouse. Apart from major surgery, my computer is unresponsive. Please help.

Hi, could you please complete specifications for your problem PC as far as possible? (See mine for comparison- click My computer below my post).

What is 'the latest upgrade'? This can be different from PC to PC. Do you mean an upgrade to build 1809?

    Hi Delchina,
Thanks for your reply. My system is about 5 years old. Computer Type Desktop. My mother board is an Intel DB85FL. The CPU is Intel and I think 3.18Mhz, 4 core, split to 8. The main drive is Corsair SSD 480GB. The Graphics card is onboard. I have 16 GB RAM. Screen Resolution 1920 X 1080. Browser Firefox and Tor. OS Win 10 Pro (1809), I think. Antivirus is IOBit Advanced System Care Ultimate v12.
    Thanks. Ian.

Sometimes the mouse and keyboard work inside Windows but not in before loading Windows. This usually means that the USB legacy emulation is set to auto or disabled. Go in BIOS and change that to enabled to make them work.

Note that MS plans to and slowly is stopping support for some older PCs. How relevant this is in your case I can't say- clearly you were offered some update or feature update (upgrade) by Windows Update- at this point we don't know what that is.

Possible driver compatibility problems could be a potential reason for the problem, but we don't know what the update is.

Windows 10 and Older Intel HD Graphics - Driver Availability and Compatibility - Stone Computers :: Knowledgebase
    - you could perhaps check your version of Intel graphics hardware.

If you wanted to know the current build installed you could use a bootable disk, boot your PC from that, and view (e.g.) properties of explorer.exe

From this you can see if 1809 is already installed, in which case you've had an update, rather than a feature update.

    Hi good people,
I replied yesterday to your last text but it does not appear. I have tried to access the BIOS with two different boot disks but cannot, as I still have no response from the mouse or the keyboard. My next try will be to take the hard drive from this computer and put it in the, not working, computer. I have also tried resetting the BIOS by removing the reset jumper.

Hi, I suggest you do not try to move the disk from a working PC to the problem PC. You could well end up with neither PC working, and it won't achieve anything if you can't even access the BIOS on your PC.

From the info you've given it may be possible to find out which key would be used to access the BIOS. That will depend on the mother board which you've quoted and BIOS type, as there's no PC manufacturer.

E.g. this one needs F7, my Lenovo laptop gives a clear prompt to use Enter. But various keys are used and you may need to just keep pressing them during the first part of the boot sequence.

You don't need a boot disk to access the BIOS, but you may need to be able to access the BIOS to be able to boot from a boot disk.

From experience... most motherboards DEL, Asrock DEL or F2, others F2, HP F10 etc. Some computers boot with a blank screen, complete most of the initialization (POST) and then show the logo or info on screen. If you try to press DEL then it is too late. So I suggest to power on the computer and press DEL several times, do not wait for the screen to switch on.

    1) Check the POST and run through the troubleshooting steps:
    What is POST?
    Computer POST and beep codes
    POST troubleshooting steps

    2) Often the mouse and keyboard are responsive in Windows RE.

    3) This is the hardware method to open the Windows RE on the computer:

Power on the computer and as soon as you see the Windows icon power off.
Immediately power on again and power off when you see the Windows icon.
On the third power on allow it to advance as far as possible to open the Windows advanced troubleshooting menu.

    4) This is an option to open Windows RE on a bootable Windows 10 iso :

On a working computer create a bootable Windows 10 iso:
Download Windows 10 ISO File | Tutorials
    Download Windows 10

Boot to the iso clicking the applicable F key:

List of PC brands with their corresponding hot-keys

    5) Update the specs in the "My Computer" section:

System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums | Tutorials
In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.
System Info - See Your System Specs - Windows 7 Help Forums

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)
