I must be doing something wrong as that has never worked for me? I'm not going dwell on it here though, don't want to take this thread anymore off topic than it already is.
It's just a bit frustrating to have access to the official legal way of creating a WTG drive. And have the legal product codes to activate it. But get stuck using slow hardware.
Try latest version of wintousb. In past it was tricky for uefi as you had to setup partitions but now, it does it all for you.

re. WTG, MS got in bed with specialist usb fixed attribitute suppliers, but now there is no technical need to restrict users (MS probably have a commercial arrangement though).

I bet you could install it on an hdd and clone partitions to a fast fast removable flash drive and it will work fine.

I may revisit trying it again now that things have changed dual partition wise etc. One of the first things I tried was to clone my official legal setup from my spinner to my thumb drive. Its been a while so I don't remember exactly what happened? Wouldn't boot up is what I think happened? Anyway, thats a different topic for a new thread when I get the ambition to have another go. All I've done lately is run the utility to see if it will use my thumb drive when a new build comes down the pipe. I keep hoping they will relent but nada.

EDIT: WinToUSB does not support Windows 10 1809? - Windows 10 Forums

They required me to create a MBR USB boot instead, however, my old windows partition is GPT format.

Not quite, they say you have chosen to boot this UEFI USB in legacy mode. Most UEFI machines have a one-time boot choice menu available at start up (usually its by pressing the F12 key). A bootable USB should appear twice in the list of choices, once as a Legacy boot device and again as a UEFI boot device.

Seems like you chose the Legacy one, try again and select the UEFI one.
