How to buy a Windows 10 Pro License

The way I understand the EULA, is that an upgrade retains the original licence terms... thus, if you upgrade OEM Home to Pro via MS Store, it gives you a digital OEM licence (with the generic Retail key) and not transferable even with the activation transfer wizard.

I'd still like to know what type of keys are being dispensed by MS support (if it's just the generic or OEM it's useless) if all it's doing is the upgrade and not activation (assuming MS support can access the activation server and enable the digital licence after the upgrade)

That is the way I always understood all upgrades. That is why an upgrade is cheaper than full retail.

An update: W10 Pro from Amazon came in the actual shrink wrapped retail box, same as you see in a store. Says Full Version. So nothing shaky there.
Now I got a key, a free flash drive I can use for something else, and a nifty box so I don't lose the key!

Bummer. I assume it is not going to be the most current version of W10, so I was going to use the Media Creation Tool to get the most current version for install, then use the key to activate it.
The point here is to avoid a bunch of updates, even if it is 1809 in the box.
You see any problems with this plan?

Other than you'll have to buy a flash drive for the current version . . . nope.

I always (try to) have a current copy on a stick in case I need to get into diagnostics.

Exactly, just leave the MS stick in the box, no need to touch it

You can buy a 16GB stick for $10

Even if you use the Media creation tool, There are still updates. But at least you wont be a feature upgrade or more behind.
There are generally 5 (give or take) updates that are not included. But they do not take long on a decent network connection and a decent specced computer.
The current CU
The current .net
The current Flash for IE/Edge.
The current Definitions for Defender.
The current Microsoft malicious software removal tool.

And of course any drivers that MS downloads.
