    Sorry folks, been away a few days.
    Lots of great info here. Good conversation.

    I pulled the trigger and bought the full retail USB stick version from Amazon for $187.10.
    I will certainly post my findings here if anything comes up wonky.

    <Snip>

    I chose to go full retail because I have always done that going all the way back to XP. I just don't want to have to deal with any legal shenanigans for any reason, and I've been on the phone with MS to move licenses more than once. It takes long enough when you are in the right.

    I bought a legit Windows 7 "Family Pack" (3 licenses for the price of one) off the store shelf and everything went great until that 4th system rolled about - uninstall off of system #1 to install on system #4. That was a LONG phone call. It ended up being me getting to a tech that took over remotely and just overrode everything and got it activated.
    I'm not interested in doing that dance again!
    Wise choice, TV2. Your logic is very good, and I would and have done the same. Like you, I don't want any legal hassles.

    I've also been through the same hassles when moving Windows.xx from one computer to another. Best I can remember is that I was given a number to plug in after I'd convinced the tech Windows was removed from the original computer. You may have gotten a newbie tech that still didn't know the ropes.

    Thanks.
    The MS folks were very helpful. The numbers were just not taking on rig#4 for some reason. Probably due to the 3-license deal.

    This is a great discussion, but everybody is not including some very important Info.

    The enclosed photo is of a Microsoft packaged Window 10 Pro OEM version. It was purchased from NewEgg as their posted OEM version. The key that limits the EULA is listed in the Third line in the agreement on the package. It states and I quote :

    "You are responsible for providing end-user support".

    The key is "if you call Microsoft with a problem using this version of W10" they will laugh at you. Simple easy to understand. This also is true for the Builders version where a HP/Dell/Asus/etc does the support.

    If you buy a Retail version, then yes you will receive support and can call (for however long the warranty is specified) Microsoft support and they will honor your requests. I as an owner of this version of W10 cannot receive any support from Microsoft.

    Now as far as trying to sell this version of W10, no can do, however for personal use its fine, but has NO support. If I want to upgrade the hardware using this version, I would need a new License.

    Reading this thread has peaked my curiosity. If someone upgraded a OEM Home build to a Pro build through the MS Store and that computer dies is the Pro key transferable to another computer running a OEM Home build?
