    HP 15 f271wm can't find SSD on win10 install

I'm trying to do a fresh install of Win10 on this laptop and I'm getting the "No drives found" error when I get to the point of trying to pick the drive.

I've run built in diagnostics and it sees the hard drive (I've even tried two different drives).
I've also booted off a linux usb stick and the drive shows up there, even tried using gparted to create an NTFS partition there first even though I was 99% certain that wouldn't help.

I've tried turning off secure boot, turning on legacy support, tried loading drivers from the intel chipset (this has the 2.16GHz Intel Pentium N3540 cpu if that helps), and nothing is helping.

I will say, I don't see the drive in the BIOS, but as stated, diagnostics sees it AND linux usb saw it no problem.

Can someone please help me find another option?

Welcome to the forum. If the bios isnt seeing it thats the problem as Windows uses the bios to install. Is this a sata drive and what is your sata type on the pc some old sata 2 wont see sata 3 unless you set jumpers on the drive

    Thanks!

The laptop is pretty new... it came with Win10 preinstalled on it. 500gig hd and 8 gigs of ddr3 ram.

I'll take some pics of the bios screens for reference, maybe I'm missing something.

    1) Please update the specs in the "My Computer" section:

In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.

    3) Power on the computer and repetitively click the F2 key to open the HP BIOS UEFI Hardware diagnostics
There are default tests usually for Drive and RAM.
If the firmware was updated it would have extensive and loop until failure testing.
Use a camera or smartphone camera to take a picture of the results and post an image into the thread.

Here is a system info page as well as the two relevant bios pages.

    The other pages are bios pass section and then the virtualization and hotkey settings.HP 15 f271wm can't find SSD on win10 install-20190206_093837.jpgHP 15 f271wm can't find SSD on win10 install-20190206_093822.jpgHP 15 f271wm can't find SSD on win10 install-20190206_093807.jpg

This is not my main computer, this is for a friend. It's a stock HP 15-f271wm aside from the Crucial M500 I'm trying to install.

If the bios will not see the drive, it is faulty. Linux tends to see hardware that Windows does not. Get a RMA from Crucial, to replace the drive.

As I stated in the OP, I've run the built in diagnostics and it sees the drive and the short test runs successfully.

This is also the 2nd drive I've put in there. These are system pulls from working other drives. I know the drives are good.

I'll test RAM right now, though I don't think it is related.

The default HP BIOS UEFI diagnostics are Drive and RAM.
RAM testing is not needed at this time.

Were you able to reset the BIOS?

Under device configurations had you tried switching sata device mode from IDE to ACHI or ACHI to IDE?

In the opening post image there were options to click refresh and load driver.
What was seen with these options?
