    So Called October Upgrade

My HP Pavilion desktop and Pavilion Laptop have not received the latest feature upgrade from Microsoft. Three other computers that I am involved with have been successfully upgraded. I keep initiating " Check for Upgrades" but no joy as regards this latest upgrade. Is there any other way I can get and install this upgrade or is there some reason why it is not available for these machines?

You can use the media creation tool to upgrade to 1809, make sure you have an image backup just in case.
It may not be offered to devices which can’t run it but am not sure.

    Hello A Gray,

In addition, you could also see if the Windows 10 Update Assistant may be able to update you to the latest version of Windows 10.

Download and use the download tool to get started, choose to save W10 as a Iso file, you are not gonna put it on a dvd or usb stick.

Download the 1809 Iso file, once you have it downloaded, open it with explorer and click on setup.

    The install should than begin.

    Download Windows 10

Worked for me on a workstation that I had to install Home on. No problems yet with it. It is of course a AMD chipset, so I should not see the issues that those with Intel are seeing.

Consider yourself lucky. I always defer these bug ridden feature updates for at least 6 months to allow the early adopters to be beta testers.

    Hi All,
Thanks for your suggestions. I've downloaded and run the Windows Update Assistant on my laptop and it has worked but with a few glitches. It seemed to hang when it got to showing the lock screen and would not load my personalised settings I had to force a shut down (by switching off at the mains) and restart. Everything seemed ok after that but it took about half an hour for the update to finish. I noticed however that there was something in the Recycle Bin and when I opened it there were literally hundreds of assorted files. I am reluctant to empty the bin at this stage in case there is something essential in it so I have moved the files to another folder to examine at my leisure. A quick look would suggest that there are a lot of duplicates and most are internet related. This feature never occurred after I upgraded the other computers that I have dealt with. Perhaps that is why Microsoft has not allowed the upgrade by the standard "Check for Updates" route. Any comments?

It has some housekeeping to do in the beginning, because of how MS made changes in registry housekeeping, etc.. Nothing should have shown up in the recycling bin, unless you had items already in there.
