    Windows 7 to Windows 10 error 0xc000000f

    I have tried to upgrade from win7 to win10 after copying the files and the system restarts, I will get the error 0xc000000f. I have both win7 and win10 disks and the automatic repair would not work.

    Apparently this has to to with some bios settings, I have tried to follow the guide but I do not have all the options to described in the guide below.

    Sorry to say ... but that link is only useful if you have UEFI. I have an "old" Win7 laptop that uses BIOS, not UEFI, and have gotten the same failure -- time after time. I've tried three different upgrade methods -- Windows Update, using the ISO, using a DVD made from the ISO -- and it fails with that same code every time. Last time it failed, it left my laptop in an unusable state -- one I'm still working on fixing.

    I have tried upgrading using windows update and a bootable usb stick - both do not work. I am able to do a clean install of windows 10 but then I have got the problem with the activation key.

    A clean install on a PC that was not previously activated through an upgrade wii NOT activate. You must do the upgrade first.

    I know otherwise it wouldnt activate right? I have been with microsoft for 4 days now and they have tried remotely installing it for me. They do not know whats going on so they are going to do it again tomorrow, referred me to a level 2 technician. Hope it will work, apparently it got something to do with corrupt BCD - I have tried to rebuilt it but it still does not work.

    The technician asked me whether I want a win 10 key but was going to charge me 100 pounds.

    0xc000000f

    So has there been any resolution to this besides getting a new key from Microsoft? I am experiencing the same issue as others. There is no option for turning off secure boot and I only have ACHI and compatibility, I have tried to upgrade several times, all result in the 0xc000000f error. I have a Lenovo L420. A clean install works perfectly fine but as others have said this causes Win 10 to stays inactivated. I am able to get all the way through the first 2 steps where the computer restarts and about 60% way through copying, aprox 20% overall, at the installation screen the laptop will restart and I get the message 0xc000000f, A required device isn't connected or cannot be accessed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Lenovo L420, clean 7 install ---> 10 upgrade
