Refuses to install due to NX, even though it's present in BIOS

Hello there!

I have a Samsung N150P netbook that I am trying Windows 10 x64 on. I should note that I already installed Windows 8.1 and even upgraded to Windows 10 in past before downgrading to Windows 7 x86.

Now while installing it using the GUI installer, the installer shows me this error,
You can't install Windows 10 because your processor doesn't supports NX
So I then tried to install it manually by burning the iso file on usb and booting on that, but I am stuck with blinking cursor that doesn't does anything. I have checked my BIOS and it does has a option called EDB (Execute Disable Bit). It's enabled by default and I tried to run the installer again after switching that option on and off, but no changes at all. Same issues happend with Windows 8.1 too.

So, How i can get it installed on my laptop? Any help will be appreciated.

I downloaded the iso from Microsoft's official site. I currently have Windows 7 x86 installed, though my PC supports x64. I have tried installed Windows 8.1 x86 and Windows 10 x64, none of them installed.

In that case, The Windows 8.1 installation should not have the same issues. I don't have problem getting Win 8.1 instead, but that doesn't works either.

Also, I did had Windows 10 (and 8.1) installed properly and with all working before back in 2015. Now none of them installs.

Have you tried 32 bit version?

Nope. Tried installing Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 8.1 32-bit. None of them installed or worked. I checked my CPU's spec page, and it claims to support 64 bit (IA-64) and I tried installing Ubuntu 64 bit, which it did and everything working. I haven't tried installing any 64-bit Windows OS, as i've only recently realized that this PC supports 64 bit (after owning it for 5 years :P)

Anyway, if it being 64 bit is a issue, I have no problem downloading a 32 bit iso and trying it again. Should I try that?

I'm not sure what the issue is. NX and EDB are synonymous. I wonder whether the error message is really due to some of the more obscure requirements (CMPXCHG16b, PrefetchW, and LAHF/SAHF)? I'm not sure, but it may be that the Atom N450 lacks CMPXCHG16b.

2GB of RAM is the minimum for 64 bit Win10. It might make sense to stay with the 32 bit version, which requires 1GB.

I'm afraid that Samsung N150p notebook is not Windows 10 compatible as it was made several years ago before Win10 was first released.

run Speccy to determine the exact model of that Samsung laptop.

maybe also check for any bios updates for that laptop (it's a longshot)

or maybe it can not run the newer versions of Win10 (like v1703 & later) and only the anniversary update (v1607/RS1) version of Win10 has to be used.

It may be incompatible, but not necessarily because of its age. The oldest device I've installed Win10 X64 on was an HP/Compaq laptop from 2008. (AMD CPU, nVidia motherboard). It originally came with Vista.

okay.. now I have tried to install Windows 10 Anniversary Update 1607 32-Bit. And it did passed the Checking your PC page and proceeded to Ready to install page.. yay! https://i.imgur.com/v4FfRDY.png

However... I can't seem to boot to my USB drive where I have burned the .iso file (using Rufus). I still get that endless cursor blink loop. And that's the problem.

My intention is to install Windows 10 as a dual-boot. Means I want to ditch my current Windows 7 and use Windows XP as my primary OS (I know its a unsupported out-of-date OS, but still) and Windows 10 as my secondary OS. But that issue of not being able to boot of USB is my problem as I need that to format drives and stuff. I am also scared that after installing it, it won't actually boot on the OS.

So is that a good sign that the GUI installer passed the NX test, or bad sign that I can't boot off usb drive (which scares me that upon installing, I won't be able to boot to the OS)
