    Hi there

    @x509

    Download limit ????? These days ??. Still using Steam generators are we !!.

    In the days of Fibre cable, Netflix and Amazon streaming 4K UHD movies etc does anyone actually have a monthly data limit these days (phones are different) but Home Broadband !!!!.

    At the newer 10 Gb/s speed being offered this year (at least where I am) you'd you'd use a few 100 GB in probably the first 2 days of a month watching 4K movies / TV series -- and on some plans forget even thinking about 8K UHD movies being shot and released later on this year for consumer consumption.

    I do agree though installing from the iso is always better IMO than doing it via WU for all sorts of reasons especially when dealing with multiple systems - other than that "Data allowance" problem -- seems some parts of the world aren't yet in C21 when it comes to Internet. I wouldn't have thought California would be problematic in that regard though -- apparently seems I'm wrong.

    Cheers

    Some times you have no choice. For the lack of cable service I have to use home version of 4G mobile service. It's limited to 100GB of internet traffic. Just about to sign up with another ISP with 150GB limit.

    Yes, this is a problem when you want to have internet but you don't have a landline. You use 3G or 4G but this has some GB limit... More than that you either see the connection being refused or you are overcharged. You may also configure your connection as metered so Windows won't update anything not important.

    I have a monthly download limit of 1 TB but it’s amazing just how much gets used up with updating the apps on 2 iPhones and 2 iPads.

    You should be updating to 1809 using the Iso file method, not through windows update.

    If you use the Iso file method you could even unplug your ethernet cable and still do the update.

    You could get any updates after you have installed 1809.

    Hi folks

    Landlines ??? What on earth are those -- seems that the smaller countries have got Internet all sorted -- can't imagine why these days one would need a monthly allowance at all with decent optic cable etc . OK if really rural out in the sticks -- but satellites should work -- can't see the military working on limited bandwidth and slow response systems !!!!!

    You really need unlimited data for watching streamed content these days !!! Netflix/Amazon/Hulu etc. I suppose ISP's will get round to it sooner or later when they aren't in HBO or similar cable operators pockets.

    Cheers

    Cable, copper as well as fiber-optic can also be a "landline".
    Fiber-optic cable is still not available here, only downtown and even there it's expensive. TV/Internet cable is also difficult to implement over longer distances and require a lot of infrastructure. Rural areas are most affected. Telephone lines still have most developed wired network and with some investment can be adapted for ADSL/DSL internet use with reasonable speed.
    That only leaves satellite and wireless networks (WiFi and mobile networks). Satellite is expensive and not reliable for 2 way communication. WiFi has limited reach and signal is subject to much interference, even a tree can cut signal significantly while speed is getting lower with distance.

    Landline is a standard wired telephone line (we call it "stable, not moving" in Greek, in contrast to "mobile") that also gives internet access via modem or ISDN or ADSL or VDSL technology. When you are in place that you cannot or it is not cost effective (due to using it a few months within the year) to install a landline number with internet access, your only other option is to use 3G or 4G connection to the internet. This is time or GB limited yet.

    Next month I am switching to another 4G plan, this time with 150GB (from 100GB) limit but also getting better router with micro card so I can use it with my phone too. Although it's sold as Home Internet it can also work as mobile, either in the phone or whole (pocket size) router in a car. It's a small router with WiFi and one hard line cable connection.

    Hi folks

    @CountMike

    Maybe us in the "far North" are better off than we realize : Ok weather can be a bit dodgy but everything else seems to work just fine and we are a reasonably "Trump, Putin, Brexit, China, N.Korea, Iran etc" free zone as well so can't complain any more really. For the size of country we even have a part way decent International Football (round ball version) team too !!

    Anyway enjoy the rest of the day - will try out some of the recent new builds a bit later.

    Seems a bit of a hideous get around to have to use a 4G plan to get decent Internet though -- Phones are great when you need them for some time but I'd hate to have to rely on the phone companies (mobile phone providers) full time for Internet Access -- think My Bank balance would disappear quicker than Beer / Scotch down my throat on a thirsty Thursday afternoon !!.

    Cheers

    Lol Jimbo, I know about Iceland's football team, won at least one game. This one of ours fared worse although has many top notch payed players all over Europe's teems.
    I'm not paying much for this internet service, about 10 Euro a months. Cable services (where available) also come bundled with cable TV so much more expensive. I'm having satellite TV service so don't really need cable for it.
