    Why do you recommend backup and restored vs cloning? I did a clone to a Samsung SSD for my laptop and worked fine.

    Why would you create a back up image and restore rather?

    Hi,
    Mainly system images can be used over and over again plus I believe I already stated one can mount the system image and copy and paste a single file or... off of it so much more useful than a clone that the original might be zapped for storage....

    I have found no easy way to get to ahci for the change, at present it boots in 20 seconds and shutsdown in 12, that is good but I would probably do ahci if I found an easy way, what I have seen takes numerous steps

    It took numerous steps to replace the HDD with an SSD.

    That's another reason a backup image is a really good thing to have. You should create one now that you have the SSD working. Then you can try things. If something happens you can restore the image and be right back to where you are in 20 minutes or so.
