    System Recovery 8 to 10

Doing a system recovery on an Acer laptop that came with 8 but was upgraded to 10.
Needed recovery media from Acer. Would you believe 6 CDs?
I believe the recovery will reinstall W-8
Can I do an upgrade back to 10 as long as I have the embedded product key?

No need to do any of that as it had 10 it will be recorded on MS servers go and get the free latest win10 Download Windows 10 boot from that and do a clean install if it asks for a serail skip it as it will activate from MS servers

Samuria is quite right, you can go straight to a clean install of Windows 10 and it will activate. It won't even ask for a key or ask which edition to install. Setup can read the embedded Windows 8 key in the firmware and use that to choose choose which edition to install. In fact, this would work even if you had never upgraded to W10 before, MS is still giving a digital licence to 'first time' upgrades.

The only possible reason you may wish to reset to Windows 8 first then upgrade to 10 is if you want to have any of the Acer bloatware utilities installed and available in 10.

    Thanks,
Done enough clean installs without a activation problem.
Not my PC, a customer's so I'm not sure if he uses any of that Acer crap.
Forgot to mention, new HDD. Old one fails to boot.
    Will give it a go.

    Worked OK.
After Acer install, just ran the latest iso and after updates, all OK.
    Thanks to all.

6 CDs at 700MB each does sound like a lot of discs but still only about 4GB. Last couple of Notebooks I used the factory backup process only to 2 and 3 DVDs at 4.2GB each.

    5, not 6.
    3 Recovery, 1 System, 1 Language.
Customer isn't sure which of the Acer programs he uses so all 800 got loaded.
I have them all disabled from Start.
