Kept trying understand why I wasn't able to install 1809 updates and found out that 1809 had got rolled back to 1803 when I got an 1803 update. I rolled back KB4471332 when it disabled remote desktop. Can someone help me understand what MS is doing? Things seem to be going from bad to worse.
Hi, I'm guessing you mean you attempted to upgrade from 1803 to 1809 (manually or by Windows update?).
Then you discovered you were actually still running 1803.

First, if you are trying to upgrade to 1809 manually, you are taking the responsibility as to whether 1809 is compatible with your PC. MS has some blocks in place in what seems a very restricted rollout of 1809 by Windows Update (News thread gives details).
Second, I don't understand why you might be trying to apply Windows Updates manually - which is the way your first line seems to read.
My experience of a recent upgrade from 1709 (my choice) to 1809 was that it initially failed with no error indication, going through some setup screens, but in fact reverting to 1709 on restart.
I succeeded after running the WU troubleshooter and resetting Windows update (tutorial refers) with a manual upgrade - I chose then to not accept updates as part of the upgrade procedure. I also disabled security programs on each upgrade attempt.
Perhaps you could be more explicit in what happened.

Are you using Windows 10 Pro, or Home ?
With Pro you can disable Feature updates (W10 1809) for 365 days.
Settings, Security & Updates, Advanced options
Go down to where is says "A feature updates includes etc" and set it to 365 days"
This way you can update when you want to.
In my opinion, it`s much to soon to install 1809, I recommend waiting 3 or 4 months.
With the recall I don`t believe it`s been a months yet.
I have 4 PCs and 1 is running Pro and the others Home. I am right now looking at one of the Homes 1803 and it is trying to update to 1809 but I went off line and stopped it and it cannot restart until I click "retry". I am doing images as I go so that I can get a good point-of-return.Are you using Windows 10 Pro, or Home ?

But back to your main question, 1809 should be fine to upgrade to now.
I would download the Iso file and update that way, I would not use Windows update.
You use the Download Tool to download the Iso file.
Download Windows 10
Then open the Iso file with windows explorer and click on setup
One thing I have found out is that if you install an update and roll it back, it will not install it again. The same is true of 1809, if you roll it back, it will not attempt to install it again, you can get it with an online update if you ever want it.

But if that were true, and you wanted to stay with 1803, well then that`s up to you.
I have no idea if that is indeed true or not.
I have the media and yes it is true, I am on a machine right now that was rolled back and you can't force install of 1809 through update, you have to use the media.
