This is not for the average user. Most of us want to freely install and use any application and game on our PC. I wonder why a laptop would be come with Windows 10 S preinstalled. As soon as the user tries to add a software he will think it is broken and demand a replacement from the store according to DOA Warranty Terms! No thank you!

I don't believe that to be the case. If it is, the buyer did not check specs. (Microsoft makes it very difficult with so many versions)

I work at a computer store as Technician and I am responsible for RMA (returns under Warranty). You would be amazed how many customers don't read the specs and claim their device does not work as they think it should work. Within 15 days of purchase (DOA period) we arrange the return at our own shipping charges and replace the device to the customer only to see the device is OK but doesn't do what the customer wants.

There is a place for Win 10 S mode .. the problem is MS counted on the Store being a lot more vibrant at the time of conception of S - that has not happened, so being fair, allowed the upgrade to Pro for free.

S was supposed to underpin the monetization aspect and cloud-centricity business plan - they have achieved that in other areas but not in the mainstream.

    OK thread closed now.

I need some help, I went to switch from Windows 10S to PRO but get the error message in the attached screenshot.
Anyone have ideas on how to resolve this?

Download the Windows 10 Home or Pro iso from Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File) Burn to a USB with Rufus and then use that to replace S with the full fledged version. If your license does not work, you will have to purchase a new digital license, or use Windows without personalization, if you do not activate.

Thank you for the quick reply. I don't see why this is an issue because I had to factory reset the computer. I am not paying for another license. I will check with MS and see if they can provide some input.
    Thank you.

No response from Microsoft, other than a Level 2 Analyst will reach back to me at a designated time and didn't. So I called MS and was put on hold for 61 minutes. I disconnected the call at that point. I called back and was advised that an Analyst will call me the following day with steps towards resolution. I agreed to that and did some exploring on my own again. I reset the Windows Store and used a VPN to connect to the Internet. I was able to log into the Store and upgrade to Windows 10 Pro without issue.

Now, any suggestions on what is the best "cloning" or "imaging" software for Windows.

    Thank you,

Macrium Reflect is the one most often recommended on these boards. The Free version is enough for most users' needs.
