Win7 Professional Upgrade RETAIL --> Windows 10?

My home PC is currently running Windows 7 Professional, a retail boxed version that I purchased some years ago. I still have the original box with the original DVD discs, and product key. However the box says it's an "Upgrade" version, although I have done more than one clean install with those discs over the years, from blank HDD partitions.

Is there any problem doing a clean Win10 Pro install using the Win7 Pro retail product key? I just purchased new upgrade parts (basically a new machine but using my previous 650W power supply, case, DVD writer etc.) and like usual the motherboard and processor only officially supports Win10.

An upgrade disc can be used to do a clean install of W7, but I don`t think you can use an upgrade key to activate W10.

If you purchased it, than you`ll know the difference by the price you payed.

A Retail W7 disc would cost a lot more than a W7 upgrade disc.

It's been awhile but a couple of times I Upgraded Vista to Win7 then to Win10 Home. The Win7 Upgrades were from a Windows 7 Specially-priced Family 3-pack, got 1 left to be used.

Clean Install Win 7 then upgrade to 10. Once that's activated then you can do a Clean Install of Win 10 if you want.

Did the motherboard come with a disc and does it includes Win7 compatible drivers? The disc and/or the manual should specify such information but the Ryzen is very new and may not support Win7.

I ordered the mobo and proc yesterday but haven’t received them yet. I have Win7 Pro installed on my current system, which I thought was retail but maybe it’s not (it’s definitely not OEM), and I was trying to figure out if I need to purchase Win10 Pro or not. I’ve heard that it’s difficult to get Win7 installed on these newer systems and I’d rather not deal with an OS that’s not officially supported.
