11 Dec 2018 Windows 10 Updates

Hi:

I found a bunch of updates ready to install on my Win 10 Pro Desktop Machine, so I went ahead and did the updates, and then the machine started to go thru the reboot process and that is where things went bad.

I no longer have a desktop available and if I try to Shift, Restart, that works fine and then I can get into the menu for fixing things.

I try the uninstall latest updates, but then a page comes up with my Account Name. However at that point I have lost all mouse and keyboard functions, so unable to click on my account name to do the uninstall of updates etc, and hitting enter on the Keyboard yields no results.

Every option I try yields the same result as I have no keyboard or mouse.

I am at a loss as to what to do to select the account.

Anyone have any idea's, as I don't really want to try a fresh install etc, and not sure if using the DVD which is a few years old will help.

Hmm...

Do you have a full backup to restore of 1803?
If not, did you try a downgrade back to 1803?

Curious, did you do the upgrade via WU or MCT or Upgrade Assistant?

If so, you could boot from the installation media and try a 'repair install':

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

You will only be able to do a repair install of Windows 10 from within Windows 10. You will not be able to do a repair install at boot or in Safe Mode.

Sounds like that is much like what VE3YF is describing in post #1. Attempting a system restore from Advanced Start up would also hit the 'no keyboard' problem.

The problem is that after selecting 'Uninstall the latest quality update' the system restarts before it gets to this screen where you have to choose an administrator account. The next screen will ask for its password (difficult without a keyboard). You also have to select an account to get the Command Prompt.

It's after this restart that keyboard/mouse functions are lost. It is probably a USB keyboard, try it in a USB2 port, also try going into the bios and turning on legacy usb support. If it's a wireless keyboard, then try a usb keyboard.

Correct. And it's a PITA!

That works if you are running 7 or 8 not for a repair install of Win 10, Sorry. But when I get a chance I will verify with a test rig I have on the bench.
