Will the Windows Update Assistant block the update to Windows 10 1809, if your hardware or software has a known issue (known to Microsoft anyway)?

I just bought a new laptop and am surprised that it won"t update automatically or by LAPTOP-HMDOPMIE.txtclicking check for updates.

I'm not surprised. So far I have not seen anyone on this forum report that the 'Features Update to Windows 10, version 1809' has appeared in their windows update, either automatically or by clicking check for updates. Not for this second release, at least.

For the first launch before it was paused anyone who checked for updates got it. After the problems first time out I think MS are being extra cautious this time and haven't started pushing the roll out yet. I have two 1803 machines, one left running 24/7 just to check on this and neither of them find 1809 through windows update. AFAIK neither have any of the known blocking issues.

MS have said it will be a phased rollout and that when you get to see it through WU it will depend on what machine you have and what their telemetry tells them about those machines. I suspect it will be weeks before we start seeing it in windows update, maybe months for some of us.

    Microsoft said:
As with all Windows releases, we will continue to carefully study the results, feedback and diagnostic data before we begin offering the update in phases to more devices in the coming weeks and months.

While the April Update had the fastest Windows 10 update rollout velocity, we are taking a more measured approach with the October Update, slowing our rollout to more carefully study device health data....

...For those advanced users seeking to install the update early by manually using “Check for updates” in settings, know that we are slowly throttling up this availability, while we carefully monitor data and feedback.

AFAIK, the Update Assistant does not check for blocking issues before attempting the update.

Edwin already said in a comment that he received this Feature update through WU when searching for updates, you had a talk with him about it.

OK, yes. That's one person that may have got it that way, Edwin wasn't certain though so we still can't be sure.

May? he received it through WU, that's clear, he showed images of that and you said you have not seen anyone in this forum report that, what he's not sure about is whether he clicked on "search for updates" or not, and I put a link to the comment that you show, didn't you see it?

He could have been one of the lucky(?) few. Don't forget that MS said...

Yes, my point is that you said that you had not seen anyone in this forum report that, I also had said that before, but after Edwin's comment we can not say that anymore.

There is no reason to use Windows update to get 1809, just download the Iso file, open it with Explorer, and click on setup.

    Much more reliable.

Thanks for the information. I won't use the update assistant knowing it does not check for incompatibilities. I will wait for awhile and see if it is offered. I don't think I have any of the known blocked update issues from my reading and Speccy txt I posted.

(I will see if there's a way to lists specs for more than one computer on this forum)

I will keep the option of the ISO file in mind thanks.
