Ok I'll go for Pro then....
Unfortunately it's only ever been Win 7 Home Premium then when there was a free offer to upgrade to Ultimate I upgraded to it.
No. You don't need the key. Neither for a direct upgrade from 7 Ultimate to 10 Pro as it doesn't ask, or for clean install using the method in the link above.
The only time you need a key is clean install without saving your windows 7 license state.
This is assuming 7 is properly licensed of course.
Absolutely no idea what happened at all because with several browser pages open on both Win 10 and Win 7 simultaneously I was getting really lost only to discover Windows 10 had already started downloading on Win 7 and is now at 21% !
Thanks a bunch for all the great help....!!
If it asks for a key then STOP.
By the way, hope you made a backup as failures aren't unknown. I'd suggest unplugging any usb things (disks, keyboard, etc) just in case.
Good luck!
Yes all backed up thanks on two now disconnected USBs also both keyboard and mouse just in case. Now on 32% so sounds like a long wait....
Well, do let us know.
It shouldn't stick at 32% for more than a few hours no matter how slow your PC is...
There are a few places it pauses but I forget where exactly...
On 39% now. I don't think it's the PC that's slow more a question of slow download speeds, especially long winter weekend evenings where you're lucky to get more than 20kb a second which might cause a problem ?
Thanks actually that wasn't my concern rather that at such low download speeds it can crash altogether as has occasionally happened in the past.
Seems to have downloaded ok overnight but now saying that I could be a victim of counterfeiting and that optional update delivery is not working. Also that URL given is not found and that a product key is required which obviously I don't have....
