installing CT240M500SSD1

samsung 950 pro m.2 <-- Win10home latest build

trying to install my old Crucial M500 as extra storage on SATA4 but it's failing to initialize and i don't see it in bios, i've tried other SATA ports and new/old cables, no luck.

diskpart shows it as size=0 free=0

diskpart was able to clear the drive, tried to do diskpart attributes disk clear readonly, it failed
can't convert to GPT
"specified disk is not convertible cause size is less than min size required for GPT"

Hello! It seems that either your SSD has a problem and is detected with 0 capacity, or Windows cannot read the disk correctly (rather unlikely). If this is the second case (rare) you may need to load hard disk controller drivers from the motherboard's DVD-ROM. There is an option to load additional drivers if your disk is not properly detected during Windows Setup. Just insert the motherboard DVD and browse to the appropriate folder (storage or RAID).

I've heard the boot/OS SSD should always be on the first SATA port, (some MB's start at 0, others at 1) I would think any succeeding drives would be on the next port(s) with no skipping in between. So of this is a second drive try putting it on the second SATA port.

You might download Partition Wizard and see what it shows, it's a very useful tool and shows everything about your drives.

First try putting the M500 on the second SATA port and see if anything changes. You might still download PW just to have it on hand.

If it worked the last time you used it there's no reason to think it failed.

Any optical drives are connected on the last port.

yes the mobo has a sata1 port labeled OS..yes this is the sata0 port they just label it sata1. my OS is installed on a M.2, all SATA ports empty, tried all ports, said it in op

Likely the M.2 port needs a proper driver to install Windows, so load the driver from the motherboard DVD as recommended above.
