Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-Place Upgrade fails...

Yesterday I attempted a Repair Install of Windows 10 with Media Creation Tool as per the TenForums Tutorial but for some reason it all went pear-shaped… I downloaded and ran the Media Creation Tool (1803) and get the following screens:-

“Getting a few things ready”
“Applicable Notice and Licence Terms” which I accept
“Getting a few things ready”
“What do you want to do” where I selected Upgrade this PC now then after a few seconds I got the error:-

“This tool can’t update your PC. The language or edition of the version of Windows currently installed on your PC isn’t supported by this tool”

The setup won’t progress any further and I have to tap ‘close’, this returns me to the desktop and no apparent changes have been made. I’ve tried the repair install a few times, there must be an obvious reason why the process fails but I can’t see what it is… My apologies if its something that ‘should’ have been obvious which I’ve missed…

My PC details are:-

Windows 10 Pro version 1803
OS Build 17134.376
Installed 09/05/2018
LCID Name DisplayName
2057 en-GB English (United Kingdom)

Any help would be appreciated...

If you have installed Windows 10 in one language (eg English US) and then added a language pack to change display to another language (eg Greek), then you should manually download the ISO of the former language and use that for the repair. After the repair is complete, you can again add the second language. If unsure which the first language is, use the tool in the tutorial suggested above.

Typcally this would be because the base language of your installed Windows is different from base language the tool is attempting to install.

I would recommend using...

step 4: To do a repair install of Windows 10 with an ISO file

You already have the MCT, so run it and choose the option to 'make media for another PC'. By default the MCT will make the ISO media in the base language of your installed Windows. NB: this is not necessarily the same as your display language. To find out your base language, open a command prompt and type the command: systeminfo

System Locale: en-gb;English (United Kingdom)
Input Locale: en-gb;English (United Kingdom)

Your base language is the System Locale and the display language is the Input Locale. I suspect, if this is the Dell in your specs, that your base language will be en-us.

Yes, the MCT should always default to making the ISO in the right bits/language for the PC it is running on.

You would have thought that it's 'upgrade this PC now' option would have got the language right too, but apparently not

There is an outside possibility that the registry had been 'tweaked' to try and change the base language, if so that could account for it.

What are the computer problems that need to be fixed by the in place upgrade repair?

In the UK you need the English International version - did you use that?
