Attempt to upgrade from W10 Home to W10 Pro failure

But not in the usual way - the Store would not accept the digital license for the W10 Pro I had purchased to do the upgrade - it offered me W10 Home again. So I tried using a physical disc for W10 Pro and it started fine and went online to collect update files to install. Right before the install was to start, the system stopped to verify my upgrade to W10 Home - from a physical Pro disc. No where could I find an option offering an upgrade to Pro. What gives?

    For reference:
Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro | Windows 10 Tutorials

You say you went to the Store to enter a license- that doesn't sound right - see the tutorial above, step 4.
Store would not accept the digital license for the W10 Pro I had purchased
What is your Windows build? Windows key + R, winver.

If 1809, that might explain problems with this..

Currently running 1803 Home. A Microsoft CSA that I needed to uninstall my W10 Pro from my laptop which was almost completely destroyed so that the digital license ( I purchased a download from the MS store online) could be made available on my new laptop. OK i went through the whole process of finding out the activation ID and getting the PID and then uninstalling (the way the CSA had explained ), then went to the updates section, clicked on upgrade, and clicked I had a license already which took me to the MS app store - where, BIG surprise, the was no list of the W10 Pro purchase or a new link so I could download it again - but I pushed on and got the update readiness tool to prepare what I thought was W10 Pro installation media - only to find out it was W10 home again. So I got pissed off and borrowed a physical disc from a friend (expecting to scream with MS on the phone at the end of the install). Disc in, asks if I want updated install files downloaded - I said sure and it downloads 5gbs of files - W10 Home yet again. At no point did it even offer any OS version to choose - although I would have thought doing the install from one of MS's own goddamn discs, it would have executed the install - apparently, bad assumption on my part. And that's where I am now - 4 days lost to this pointless endeavor.

If Home is installed and you have a retail Pro key and you follow the tutorial, there seems no need for a Win 10 iso or disk.

    See step 4 onwards.

Nope - followed instructions and thought I had it when it got to upgrade your edition, clicked on start and then got the error message that I don't have a valid license (how that is possible only Microsoft kows)...and it still doesn't explain why when I tried to upgrade from a Microsoft physical disc that was W10 Pro, the system and Microsoft somehow wouldn't upgrade to Pro, it only kept offering me Home.

Sounds like this was an upgrade from either 8 or 10 with a bios key that makes it install home.
there are waus to adjust your install USB to force a Pro install. Don't have the link handy at the moment.

Edit... Try using the generic pro key but disconnect from the internet first.

You cannot upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro by running setup.exe from a Windows 10 ISO file or USB flash drive. Windows 10 never had that capability. To do the upgrade you need a valid Pro product key with activation capability such as a retail product key or you need an established digital license for Pro for that specific computer and then you can use the generic Windows 10 product key for the upgrade.

If you want to upgrade what you have now to Pro, you will need to do a clean install of Windows 10 Pro to a new partition. Activate it with the activation troubleshooter to move the license from the old computer to the new computer, or call Microsoft and hope they activate it for you.

Once that is done and get the digital license established, then you can go back to the original Windows 10 and upgrade it to Pro buy using the generic Pro product key.

I have a valid disc bought in their store it has a PID and the system is brand new Samsung that came with W10 Home...so you are telling me that i cannot put the disc in and do an upgrade from their disc like i have done for every other one of their operating systems....that is as insane as finding out that the digital license is only good for one piece of hardware which is what another CSA said. It is coupled to the MAC and that you can't move it to another machine even if the original machine has a total hardware failure...here, all these body organs are yours but when you die, you are not allowed to transplant them even though the organs are still viable.....give me a break. after paying for the OS once - I am not paying for it a second time.

Why did you buy a disk? Any iso (freely downloadable) is capable of installing Home or Pro.
