    Windows 10 October [1809] Upgrade

This is amazing. I purchased a Windoiws 10 Pro Installation DVD and fresh installed it on my Laptop. It installed the Winver 1809 which is the version of Windows 10 with October 2018 Creators Update. Next day Windows Update downgraded it to version 1803.

Now when I try to install the October 2018 update on the Laptop, it doesn't get installed though I understand that it has been again released by Microsoft. On my Desktop I had updated to Winver 1809 on the day it was originally released and it is working like a charm.

Isn't this amazing? Can someone please help me to install Winver 1809 on my Laptop? I am not an Insider.

As far as I know, you are mistaken. 1809 hasn't been re-released yet. Wait for it.

Some users are more adept at handling Feature & Cumulative updates

But for the average computer user
Create a system image backup of your 1803.
Be thankful that the computer reverted from 1809 to 1803.
When 1809 is re-released, don't push it: let your computer naturally upgrade to 1809: in other words, when it's ready.
--- Some computers will not be ready as quickly as some others are.
When 1809 is installed and running properly, create another system image backup.

I had posed the same question in the "Microsoft Answers Community" And the answer I got was as under:

    "Vijay_VermaReplied on October 30, 2018

Don't worry. You are not missing something. This is a simple matter of 1809 being not available for anybody as of now. The persons who had upgraded to 1809 from previous versions are still retained at 1809. They are not being downgraded. But looks like fresh install of 1809 are getting downgraded to 1803. (Surprising indeed)

As of now, 1809 has not been rolled out for upgrade except to Insiders. It was rolled out earlier but had few bugs. Windows feature update 1809 has been paused by Microsoft and currently it is being tested by Windows Insiders community.

You should not try to install 1809 at this juncture unless Microsoft re-releases it. Keep an eye on Windows Blogs to know when it will be released.

This answer would correct the wrong impression that you have.
    Regards.

What wrong impression? As far as I know 1809 has not been rereleased? All 1809 ISO's have been pulled from any official Microsoft Dwonload source. And are still not available, I checked My Visual Studio Subscription just today, no 1809 ISO's.
I did manage to download 1809 ISO's before they were pulled. And I have done a clean install with one. That PC is still running 1809. I've run Windows update several times and it has not downgraded on its own. I'm not saying yours didn't down grad, just that mine didn't. That must be a new twist added to Windows update, if true? First I've heard of it.

If you actually have a 1809 ISO, clean install with no Internet connection and it will have no way to override and install 1803. What happens first time you connect and run Windows update is another matter. Run winver before you connect to the internet to verify its 1809.

    Hi,

Obviously, your DVD contains a previous Win version. On your first installation and because 1809 was available, installer (or Windows, after installation) auto-updated to 1809.
Now this is impossible because 1809 has been paused, so installer updates only to current 1803.
Auto-downgrading is also impossible, as MS Surprising indeed said, except of update failure.

If you want to install 1809 anyway, you may follow this.

The Windows 10 installation DVDs with 1809 are still selling in the markets in India and have not been pulled back. As I earlier clarified, 1809 installed on my Desktop a day or two after 1809 was originally released is working perfectly as perhaps yours is.

Microsoft is allowing insiders to install 1809 for further testing and a person claiming to be Independent Adviser and Volunteer Moderator in Microsoft Answers is himself stating that Microsoft it was surprising that 1809 installed from authentic DVDs from Microsoft are being downgraded to 1803.

At least all the cobwebs in my mind have been wiped out after reading Mr. V. Verma's message.

You may check your DVD Win version. Browse your DVD, find the "setup.exe" file, right click/Properties > Details tab, and see what "File version" shows:

    For 1809: "10.0.17763.1"

    For 1803: "10.0.17134.1"

It doesn't show either of the two but shows File Version 10.0.16299.15 and the DVD has been made in Hong Kong with its price in Indian Rupees printed on it's case. Could it mean that file versions are dependent upon Countries of manufacture/sale.

That's it. Your DVD has 1709 (Sep 2017) installer.
