Hi snattsas. Welcome to the TenForums @snattnas

Regardless of OS the BIOS loads first and should accept USB input.

Just confirming you are using rear USB ports?

Also confirming this is a wired keyboard?

and you press F2 multiple times right after you power on.

According to Dell manual for 5150 it is F2

Thanks everyone for the greeting and generous advice. I am using the rear usb port, and the keyboard is usb2. Delete, F2, or any other key as it does not respond to the keyboard until after windows is up. The problem was first detected when trying to entera response to the startup settings menu. The system goes blind to any usb input.....have to power down and restart to regain control.

Any chance you have to press Function (FN) to get F2 on that keyboard?

not sure about the Dell, where I work we have HP Elite books, in the bios the USB can be turned off at boot time. When you say PS2 socket do you mean for a keyboard ? the round connector?
