Looked in broswer area did not see any?
Is it time for a new HD

Sorry, the 'brose area' is not one I'm familiar with.
when i start my laptop error 301 about the hard drive
also when using the usb gets 1/2 way then fails

I'm going to assume your laptop doesn't boot, and won't boot from your USB drive.
Can you check your USB drive by booting another PC from it? Or do you know if it is a working bootable medium?
How was it created? What do you believe is on it?

If you wish to test your hard drive you can
- remove it from your laptop and put it in a USB caddy, connect it to another PC and run a program such as Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - excellent; HD Tune, Crystal Diskinfo
or
- create a live boot disk, boot your laptop from it (but you're having problems doing that with your present USB disk) and run HD Tune from the live boot disk.

1) Open the HP website > software and drivers ( HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HPĀ® Customer Support ) > enter the product or serial number or model > select the operating system > view drivers > post a URL or hyperlink into the thread
2) Update the system specs in the "My Computer" section:

In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)
3) Power on the computer and repetitively click the F2 key > open the BIOS UEFI diagnostics > there are default and downloadable UEFI diagnostics that have different tests. Identify the version and tests available. The default HP UEFI diagnostics have tests for memory and HD. If the computer only has these then run these tests. If the computer has extensive or loop until failure tests then run them and post the results into the thread. Again please report into the thread the version used and the tests performed.
When i did HD test as soon as i hit enter said it failed
If the computer is under warranty then contact HP for a RPA.
If the computer is not under warranty then replace the drive.
Drives can be replaced as a HD or SSD.
SSD prices have come down in price with large sizes.
SSD will cost more than HD but they have much faster boot times.
