    HP laptop reset

I was given a HP laptop which had Windows 7 pre-installed,I installed Win 10 and it is now running version 1809, I want to go back to factory settings (don't ask )if I use the Advanced Startup and choose to wipe all my files will the laptop be restored to Win 7 or Win10.There is no option showing for a Factory reset and I don't have HP Recovery installed, there is a Recovery Image (D) showing in File explorer, for me a bit confusing, any help appreciated

The hot keys to start the recovery will have stopped working as they will have been over written. It depends on the type of disk is MBR and the format of a recovery files. Can you post a screenshot from disk Management that may tell us

Once the computer is upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 there is a digital license.
If you want Windows 1803 then you can clean install:

    Download Windows 10
Clean Install Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials
Download Windows 10 ISO File | Windows 10 Tutorials

Using HP Recovery may take longer for Windows updates after the upgrade compared to the Windows 10 iso.
The advantages of the recovery are the availability of the HP drivers and software.
After using the recovery perform windows updates to update both windows and non-Microsoft drivers.

If you prefer a clean install then use the HP website to download the best tested drivers for the computer's configuration:
HP.com > support and drivers > enter the computer's product or serial number or model > select the operating system > view drivers

To download drivers from the HP website:
For consumer models use: HP support assistant
For business models use: Softpaq download manager

There are additional drivers and software on the HP website for the computer's configuration that are not on the recovery and may not be automatically downloaded by the HP support assistant or Softpaq download manager.

I don't have HP Recovery installed, there is a Recovery Image (D) showing in File explorer
Your Recovery drive D looks like the right size but I have an HP laptop, orig 8.1, and the drive was long ago overwritten after various Windows 10 version Upgrades. It is more than likely the case on yours too.
If you click the Start menu button and the Programs has HP Recovery Manager (highly unlikely) or you can boot to it by hitting F11 quickly enough after powering upyou can follow the video in this link to restore to Factory condition (Win7 w/HP added software & old drivers) - https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01867418
Otherwise, if you REALLY want Windows 7, you can probably find an ISO online and select the HP software and drivers that you want to install by going to their Support page and entering your model number. The page will show all factory installed software and drivers and you can pick and choose updates - https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice

For the life of me though, if you have 1809 running, I don't know why you'd want to go back to 7 and all the time involved reinstalling programs, personal files, etc. As suggested, 1809 is having issues and you want to rollback to 1803 follow 'zbook's' prev post. Good Luck.

Thanks all,HP recovery manager was installed until I reset win 10 due to issues I was having, not sure that any of the options in Recovery would put the laptop back to factory settings with Win 7, if I could be 100% sure I would probably go ahead as I have a Desktop and another HP laptop,HP Recovery manager has an option to restore the system to factory state but Win 10 Recovery doesn't seem to have that option, maybe best to leave well alone as I don't want to mess the laptop up completely. Thanks again

You post an image from explorer we need disk Management from admin tools showing all the details. If it's a MBR disk it's often possible to set recovery as active and then it boots to HP recovery

Once you decide on the preferred option you can tune up the computer and set in place backup options:

    This includes:
    a) checking the windows operating system
    b) checking the windows component store
    c) checking the windows drive file system
    d) checking the HP hardware
    e) making a backup image to protect important files

    1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    2) sfc /scannow
    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorhealth
    4) chkdsk /scan
    5) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    6) Open the HP website: Download the HP diagnostics Windows:
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Official Site
Run the system and component tests.
For RAM testing power on the computer and repetitively click the F2 key > run the HP UEFI diagnostics overnight.

If you Upgraded from Win7 to Win10, that has a bad history of corrupting the HP Recovery files, and that will prevent a factory reset from working. If you only installed Win10 over the top of Win7, and did not touch the Recovery partition, then setting it to boot might actually work to do the factory reset.
