What happened to my Windows versions 1804 to 1808?

I'm reading a How-To-Geek stating that M$ have pulled the October 2018 update for Windows 10, because it was deleting files.

    https://www.howtogeek.com/fyi/micros...eleting-files/

The October update is version 1809. My current version is 1803.

AFAIK, I don't refuse any Windows updates. Why am I missing some versions?

    Thanks.

The automatic rollout of 1809 hadn't started yet. You would only have got 1809 if you had gone into Settings and clicked 'Check for updates'. Those that did for the most part got 1809 without any problems, but for a few the update deleted their Documents or Photos. That's why Microsoft withdrew it.

When MS have fixed the problem the rollout will begin again, until then your 1803 it the current up to date version and you are not missing anything.

Only problem I had was it took two and half hours to download, another two hours to install. started download at 3:10pm.
It would download, pause with pending download, start downloading again then pause, pending download, Optimization was downloading at same time in the background.

There were no 1804 to 1808 versions.

Microsoft doesn't call them Service Packs. The last I remember using that term was IBM with OS/2.

You are not missing anything. Versions are numbered to match the month of release, they are not numerical increments.

If, just for example, the first one next year is 1903 then you would step from 1803 through 1809 to 1903 with nothing inbetween.

    Windows 7 had service packs.

Thanks for the info. Based on that info, here's another HTG link that describes the complete Windows OS numbering scheme:

BTW: The HTG site plus this forum and Brink's tutorials (ably assisted by other generous volunteers) comprises my complete Help Desk

You're right, I forgot all about Vista and Windows 7. Thanks for the reminder.

'Service Pack' denotes a repair or patch, as in 'Having your car Serviced' .....
Whether or not they choose to call it this, or 'Update' or 'Build Number .... Has anything changed as for fixing, patching or repairing?
Microsoft want to play word semantics with us, but nothing really changes.
