    Kb4457136

    Hello,
Looking weekly into the MS Updates Catalog for some new updates for my 1709 system, (I stopped the auto updates because some update installes itself over and over again and I uninstall it from apps).
So the recent update is KB4457136. As I read here: "https://windowsreport.com/kb4457136/", it prepares the system for Windows 10 October 2018 Update. What if I do not want the new coming feature installed on my system, shell I install that KB4457136, or are there some other reasons to install it.
    Answers will be appreciated.
    Thanks

As you have Pro, you can set feature updates to be deferred. That at least delays it for up to a year.
You can also set updates to Notify - so you take control of when (or if) they are applied.
Tutorial refers - see group policy editor.

Otherwise you would have to disable windows updates.

Information on each particular update per build is available in a thread per update per build in the News section, together with manual download links.

Thus, if you disabled updates, you have at least two possible routes to still apply available updates:
    a. manually
    b. using Windows Update Minitool (free).

Looks like Windows update cache is corrupted and that will be the reason why Windows reinstalls some updates.

You can delete corrupted Windows cache updates by executing below commands.

    Code:
    Sc stop wuauserv

    Rd /s /q C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
Restart your computer and Windows should install those failing updates but this time only one time.

There is no mention of 'preparing the system for Windows 10 October 2018 Update' in the KB article for this cumulative update.
    Cumulative Update KB4457136 Windows 10 v1709 Build 16299.697 Sept. 20 - Windows 10 Forums

There are no new security fixes in this cumulative update, only previews of the quality updates to be release next 'Patch Tuesday' update.

Update Tuesday (most often referred to as Patch Tuesday) updates are published the second Tuesday of each month. These updates are ... the only regular releases that include new security fixes.

So there is no need to install this one, in fact windows update won't automatically install it. You have to specifically click 'check for updates' before it will find it.

However, all the patches it contains will be in the next 'Patch Tuesday' update - and you will have to install that if you want to get all the new security fixes.
