I'm about to go down this path again, it's been a few years since I've done this and can't quite remember what I did last time. :)
Unfortunately, I have to upgrade the new laptop to Windows 10 Pro first as it didn't come pre-installed and my old laptop has it (and the PCMover insists that the OS be the same). This means I'll likely have to upgrade Windows from my Windows MS (online) account. My question is, once I do that, should I remove that account from the new laptop and create a local account for the PCMover software to run under? They aren't really clear on using a local account vs an online one in their guide. I seem to remember when I did this last time, the accounts were messed up and new user directory structures had to be created. A bit of a mess.
Gotta admit, this is one area where Apple has a leg up on Microsoft as their built-in, old to new Mac migrations usually go without a hitch and everything ends up identical on the new machine. Why MS leaves this up to third parties to handle I've never understood. ??? (and I obviously don't belong to the "only do clean installs!" tribe)
