I doesn't matter if you uncheck the box to download and install updates or not. There is something wrong with the current Windows installation that is preventing the upgrade.

I am trying to do a repair install and when I downloaded the ISO from MS it gave me the message that it could not run the ISO on this computer and gave me an error code 0x80042405-0xA001A, I have no Idea what to do, Can someone help?
The title of the thread is error when creating a ISO flash drive. The Media Creation Tool doesn't create an 'iso flash drive', it offers the choice of either making an ISO file, or a USB flash drive. I suspect the OP means they tried to make a USB and it failed with 0x80042405-0xA001A. This can be due the the USB you tried to use being a gpt format rather than the normal MBR layout.

the Media Creation Tool fails with error code 0x80004005 - 0xA001A if the USB you ask it to use has a gpt partition. This is usually due to having use Rufus to format the USB previously.

I did not get the same error that you show, The one that I got was smaller and it just said that the installation failed

Back up data you want to keep and clean install Windows 10.

I placed the ISO on my desktop and right clicked and chose the option to mount to a virtual drive and then opend it and ran the setup as administrator

Navy is right - there must be something wrong with the current installation. Please provide the specs of your wife's computer, and all peripherals attached to the machine.

I was hoping to avoid having to do a clean install, I already backed up a system image in case I lost every thing and I am not sure how to reinstall what I want to keep as the system image will just reinstall the same problem that I am trying to correct, How do I do this?

Do you have any anti-virus programs installed other than Windows Defender?
