How long should a "downgrade" back to win 7 take?

It yet didnt finish after around 4 and a half hours. I just have a black screen with a cursor on it. I can open task manager with ctrl+alt+delete but when i do it the disk usage really drops for like 40 minutes. I did this twice lol. But right now the hdd light is non stop glowing. Still the black screen tho. It also says i dont have a genuine copy which is wierd cause i "upgraded" to 10 from a genuine copy. Im just posting this to see if this is normal. The drive was almost full with around 650gb used and 100 free which may be why its taking forever. Idk i hope its doing its thing.

    The million dollar question.

We've seen some feature upgrades in excess of 10 hours. As long as drive is humming let it go.

It was still on the black screen. The led almost wasnt blinking so i went yolo and restarted it. To my surprise, a huge sigh of relief was let out when it booted up into win 7 with everything i had before. Im guessing it failed to auto restart at some point in the process so i helped it lul. So if you guys ever get this problem (with the black screen with a moving cursor and being able to do the ctrl+alt+delete just wait for a couple of more hours to be sure its fully installed and just restart it by itself). Keep in mind like 13 hours passed so i was getting pretty bored without my pc lul. Also Ken i would give you an another rep cause you again helped me but i gotta spread it. I probably would have restarted it earlier and fked the process up. You telling me it can take 10 hours made me wait longer .

    Hi there
If you had taken an image say with Macrium Free or any other backup solution mentioned on these boards you could have restored previous installation (W7) within 30 mins at most even for average size win 7 installation on HDD (not SSD). On SSD could be as little as 5 Mins !!!

If and when you do get W7 back TAKE AN IMAGE COPY so if you have to do the same thing again it won't take very long at all.

Don't bother with the Windows tools for this type of stuff --Free 3rd party tools are far superior in this case.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw some people taking 10 Hours !!!!!

I can back up almost 6TB of data from a NAS in less than 4 hours !!!!!!! --can't think of many W7 installations where the OS is 6TB !!!!!! (Running parallel instances and splitting directories to be backed up -- they are on RAID array so I just back up directories A-J say on 1 process and K-Z on another --the RAID handles which disks the actual data is on !!).

    Cheers
    jimbo

    Macrium

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

Then as jimbo says with an Image you simply restore.

    Some thoughts

How much do you trust Macrium Reflect?
