There is no doubt that NavyLCDR knows his stuff. I follow a lot of his posts and his instructions are right on.
That said I don't see the need to change this HDD. You are removing it. If you need to re-install you change BIOS back to IDE and connect.
Again NavyLCDR is an expert, I just don't see the need.

Yes. The machine probably won't boot if you set the SATA controller to AHCI, if it's currently in IDE mode.
I doubt that it's a big deal. It won't affect the Windows installation. You can always switch back.
However, there are work-arounds to switch an existing Windows installation from IDE to AHCI. Here's one plausible-looking: How to Change SATA Hard Disk Mode from IDE to AHCI / RAID in BIOS after Installing Windows? - AskVG These are in addition to Navy's suggestion.
I'd speak from personal experience, but I haven't dealt with the issue myself for many years.
I checked my registry and both msahci ( now called storAHCI) and pcIDE values are already changed to 0 . However the Start to overide value inside storACHi is still at value 3 . Does this need to be changed to 0 as well?
If you delete the drive controller entry in device manager first and change the mode in BIOS/UEFI during the first restart after deleting, it will not affect booting in any way.
If for some obscure reason if does fail to boot, then just change the BIOS/UEFI setting back to IDE. I've made this change on various computers at least a dozen times and it has never failed. I just don't see any reason to run a modern computer with a SATA drive (HDD or SSD) in IDE mode.
It'd be good to know whether the AIO supports AHCI. I suppose that it does, but I wonder why the drive controller was configured as IDE.
I was unable to find that in any online documentation. Dratted appliance PCs.
I just booted the Sony Vaio into bios using F2. I get a very simplified screen .
When I click on the Advanced Tab , I get only one listing "hardware" . When I click on it I only get fan speed.
I have never seen this behavior before. There is no listing of peripherals , etc etc
Am I booting into the right screen?

Of course there were two other threads, not specific to your model, and they said they weren't compatible or couldn't load windows.
Depending on refund policies for ssd you might just try it anyway. If they are very strict you might pause.
Would you have a smaller SSD around that you could experiment with?

On page 98 it appears there should be more options in BIOS than what @sportflyer is seeing:
When you are trying to get into BIOS make sure to select either the restart option from Windows shutdown menu, or hold the Shift key when clicking on Shutdown. That will bypass any fast startup options set in Windows. You usually cannot get into BIOS setup when Windows is set for a fast startup on the next boot.
I do get the Boot menu with the std options . But under Advanced Options , I get nothing but Hardware monitor and nothing else. So I am wondering whether I can even access AHCI options before installing windows 10 . Maybe it will be done automatically or maybe my Mobo doesnt even have the AHCI options.
Perhaps I should just go ahead and add the SSD and see what happens. I will be using a 250GB Crucial MX500 SSD from newegg.
