Well a happy ending all the way round.

Beauty of the forum, we discuss, we share, we all learn something.
People such as yourself and many others, are a valuable asset to this site. I have been following every SSD upgrade post I could think of across multiple forums and eventually the OP posted something that caught my attention.

Not only is his computer old like mine; he mentioned the magic IDE word and the problem he couldn't update his BIOS further and was stuck with a chipset that limited his BIOS settings. When he mentioned that his optimization was working in IDE mode, I thought to myself "I need to see his device manager structure" and sure enough I was missing the channel ports and IDE Controllers also.

The last option I was going to pursue was to modify the BIOS by hacking and flashing - sure glad I didn't.

This is the most informative site I have ever been a part of.

Couldn't of done it unless you had a very similar situation - you did, and you had a better way of communicating it to the community than I did and found answers for many others probably.

So; back at ya - and thanks again!
