    Windows 10 Pro Boot issues

Asus laptop, Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. Version 1703
Originally updated from Windows 8. (no OS DVD was supplied at the time of purchase)
the laptop has been trying to do an update for months without success. No error messages have been seen as to what the issue is that is preventing the update.
The other day the laptop again gave a notice of an update and I told it to proceed.
Now when I can not boot the computer I get an error message 0xc000000f No other messages are given.
I can use F8 and boot into Safe mode with or without networking.
I have tried many of the suggestions given for a 0xc000000f error message and none have worked.
I have tried the Bootrec options, Scan, chkdsk and other options using a bootable DVD.
Tried "reset this PC", "Startup repair", "System restore" "System image recovery"
    Nothing has worked
Looking for ideas as to where to go from here

    Hi there

You'll need another machine to do this on though.

    1) download Media creation tool from Ms.
    2) Execute it and choose iso image. Don't burn to DVD.
    3) download RUFUS.
    4) create bootable USB from the ISO using Rufus --just follow on screen instructions.
    5) now in your defective computer boot from the USB and clean install Windows.

    Should all work again.

Once you are up and running take system backup with Macrium (Free) - then if you have these sorts of issues just restore a backed up image. Create Macrium bootable media as well so you can boot the recovery program if you need to restore an image.

    ALWAYS TAKE REGULAR BACKUPS !!!!!

    Cheers

If the files are not backed up and you want to troubleshoot the failed boot that is another option with the Windows 10 iso.
Please communicate in the thread the status of the computer files and whether you want to clean install or want to troubleshoot the boot failure.

With the computer having 1703 what troubleshooting steps had been made to upgrade to either 1709 or 1803 over the past year?

What was the displayed result for startup repair? Did it create a srttrail.txt? Were you able to find it?
What was the displayed result with reset save files?
Had you attempted reset with remove files?

Find a flash drive that you can format ( > or = 8 GB)
    Download Windows 10

In safe mode copy and paste these commands and post the results into the thread.
When using the windows 10 iso and windows RE please use a camera or smart phone camera to take pictures and post images into the thread.

    bcdedit /enum
    bcdedit | find "osdevice"
    diskpart
    list disk
    list volume
    select disk 0
    detail disk
    list partition
    select partition 1
    detail partition
    select partition 2
    detail partiton
    select partition 3
    detail partition
    select partition 4
    detail partition
    select disk 1
    detail disk
    list partition
    exit

When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

Then copy and paste these commands one at a time:
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd

When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    reboot after the above commands.

If the boot remains faulty then open safe mode with command prompt and type or copy and paste:

    bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
    c:
    cd boot
    attrib bcd –s –h –r
    ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
    bootrec /RebuildBcd

When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    (reboot)

If the boot failure is fixed then consider it fragile and make a backup image using Macrium.
If the boot failure is not fixed by the above then there are additional commands and methods to fix the boot and check the operating system and drive file system.

Whenever I get boot issues, I use the Macrium Reflect 'fix windows boot problems' feature rather than messing with bcdedit commands.

It basically rebuilds the bcd from scratch and majority of times it just works.

There are three or more methods that can be tried:
command prompt commands: many have not yet been tried
    macrium fix boot
    kyhi boot rescue
