    ...Iv'e used the Media Creation tool 2 times and it goes straight to install Windows 10 without a prompt. When finished it is always Windows 10 Home. It probably reads my system and goes with the default version.

    If it gets a Home key from the bios it will install Home without asking. There are several ways to modify the install media to force an install of Pro. One is to modify it's ei.cfg file, but NavyLCDR recommends...

    ...use a PID.txt file instead.

    [PID]
    value=VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

    That will cause Windows 10 PRO to install without asking you for a product key or which version you want to install.

    Not saying there isn't a way around it but for the average user that upgrades a Home machine, who doesn't frequent forums, Microsoft could change logic and make life easier.

    The 'path of least resistance' is to let it do its thing and install Home, then upgrade that to Pro with the generic key. Even I ended up doing that last time I was in this situation

    But for clarity, that does not work since 1709 UNLESS pc already has an established PRO digital licence.

    The whole solution is simple.

    Create a text file called ei.cfg with just two lines and copy to resources folder on usb installation drive.

    Much easier than PID.txt, generic keys eyc.

    No luck here. I tried both the generic key and ei.cfg method.

    When you saved file did it get extension txt?

    Saw something you have to save as "ei.cfg" with quotes so the file does not get .txt extension. You likely can find on web.

    Edit: Found it

    Did not include quotes. Will fix for the next time I reinstall.

    Caledon Ken, the quotes did the trick. Back up and running Windows 10 Pro.
