Help - Boot source during a Clean install ???

Ok, I am installing 1803 clean from a CD. On this old laptop I have to hit any key at boot time to make the laptop use the CD/DVD drive instead of the hard drive even though I have it set in the bios.

My question is this: I boot from the DVD - wipe the drives and it goes forward, then when it needs to reboot during the install should I just leave it alone to boot as it will or do I need to sit there and force it to go to the DVD by hitting any key each time it boots?

Seems to me once it has copied all the files to the empty partition, it would boot right from the hard drive but do I want that to happen or not?

    Appreciate the help, Donna

You got this right. Once install gets to reboot, you can just leave it to boot from HDD.

By way of possible explanation, what happens during the time between the commencement of installation and the first reboot thereafter includes three important activities (among others):
    1. The installer sets up a new (or picks up and runs with the old) disk layout.
    2. The installer creates a bootable Windows Pre-installation Environment (aka WinPE).
    3. The installer copies all the install files it needs from the install media (a DVD in your case) to the hard disk.

Once that reboot occurs, control passes from the WinPE on the DVD to the WinPE on the hard disk. It then uses the files it's copied from the media to construct Windows (the OS) on the partition that's been designated for its use. This usually becomes the C: drive partition once the installation process gets to the next reboot and the new resident OS takes over to complete the installation process.
