    You have your MR Image backups so you don't need RE at all, with the Fall upgrade you'll get a new one anyway. the booting issue is because you have more than one bootable disk, you need to covert your D drive to logical non-active then the boot manager won't ask you if you want to boot from it.
    There is no need to convert the D drive to a logical partition. If the computer is UEFI and the drive is partitioned with GPT partitioning, it's actually impossible to convert D drive to a logical partition.

    Well right now the old 128 gig ssd is disconnected, and two of my really old drives have XP boot partitions on them. Before It would maybe ask which drive to boot from and once I chose 10 it wouldn't ask again till I pulled up the boot manager.
    With all the messing around I screwed up and deleted the recover folder or whatever and since then none of the backup images I made seem to restore that folder partition so the RE recovery stuff is dead but it also messed up some of the commands like gpedit so I was at least trying to get that stuff working again and I guess letting the old 10 install disk auto fix the boot fixed that where the Macroit did not. I use a old version of 10 because I'm still using a hacked in version of Media Center that supports my HD HomeRun 3 tuner cable card device. None of the other options fully support the pay movie encrypted channels. Otherwise I'd be running the latest update but so far anything newer then what I have breaks WMC and my tuner card. Also this is my fastest box so it does a better job of editing my HDTV captures or I would be using the card on my 7 box.
    Thanks for the help, it got me going and I messed around till the other stuff works again seeing how I figured if I totally killed it I have 3 recent images of the drive so I could just redo it till I/we found something that worked. I also run NTFS because it's compatible with my older boxes so hopefully no issues sharing things over the network or elsewhere.

    Hi folks
    @Dartman.

    Download Partition magic or similar and then you can re-size partitions dynamically without losing data or logging off.

    Just expand the original partition to the size you want.

    Re image the original SSD to the new one if you've hosed up the new one.
    Now expand the partition to what you need.

    MiniTool Partition Wizard | Best partition magic alternative for Windows PC and Server

    when installing though uncheck the mcaffee screen and it will just install the partition manager.

    Not a fan of people who "sneak" in software which if you are an "automatic clicker" can miss the accept stuff but in this case as the tool is worth having just take care when installing it.

    Cheers

    Thanks, I have partition magic and have already moved and expanded things where they need to be so I'm able to use the whole drive, just don't understand what happened to the recovery partition on my images unless I'd already deleted it before the last batch of images because even the original boot drive says RE is disabled and I was trying to not touch anything so I had a complete original in case the bigger drive got messed up.
    I TRY to look and not click or agree to any extra crap these days as I like everything I use now and don't need something else that competes with my stuff that works. I MAY try just hooking up the old ssd drive and letting my 10 install disk repair boot issues and see if that does any good and if it does make a new image before lots of things get added to my new drive

    Suddenly RE is enabled

    AND I did decide to hook up my old SSD, get it as squared away as I could, then made another image. It still had RE disabled but other then that it boots up fine and all the advanced commands work. It still asks if I want to boot to 10 or earlier OS as well but boots just fine after making a selection or just waiting for it to auto load 10 as the first choice.
    So I was happy with that, left it in place as a emergency backup and disconnected it and got the new drive hooked back up and happy in the bios. It of course now doesn't ask which OS I want as it now just goes right to 10 pro and boots quickly. I decided to check my RE status just for giggles and now it says it's enabled and shows a location and everything and I never changed anything so maybe it eventually auto generates a new recovery partition or I did something that made it happy as I haven't let it update the original locked down version of 10 or anything but I'll take it. Guess I better make a image of it too just in case and relax
