Is it possible to use an old ISO to clean install Windows 10?

Lets say that instead of downloading the latest 1803 ISO someone wanted to use a previously downloaded old Windows 10 ISO..1609, 1703 etc to clean install Windows 10. Would it successfully install you right up to date to version 1803. Or are you not supposed to do that. Could there be issues?
There must be occasions where someones hard drive has failed and they need to clean install Windows 10 to a new hard drive but have no way of downloading the latest Windows 10 ISO first but they have a previously downloaded older Windows 10 ISO that they could use. Could the old ISO be used to clean install Windows 10 right up to the latest version without issues?

No. It would install whatever version was on the install media 1507, 1511, 1607 or whatever.

If you had the older windows install media on usb (as it happens, I have kept the USBs for all previous versions) and used that to install Windows 10 the first thing it would do once installed would be to download the latest cumulative update for the version you just installed.

The second thing it would do is start to download the 'Features Update to Windows 10, version 1803'. This is basically all the install files required to upgrade to 1803, some 3GB of downloads. You would get a working 1803 in the end, but it makes more sense and would take less time to use the MCT to download the 1803 ISO/USB and install 1803 in the first place.

Everyone should have make regular system images with something like Macrium Reflect Free - then you could restore your latest image to a new drive and carry on from where you were before, with all your software installed and Windows configured as you want it.

Have you any idea why a July version of 1803 was released after the March version of 1803? I read that it was an updating issue.

If you have the March version of Windows 10 1803 on flash drive ..is it still recommended to download the new July 2018 version of 1803 and use that instead?

There were some bits of Insider configuration that were left in the 17134.1 image in error. For example, the feedback frequency settings were greyed-out and 'managed by the Insider program'. These issues were corrected in the 17134.112 cumulative update, so it makes sense to release an updated ISO using that build.

It's not necessary, as the latest cumulative update will get you back on track to the latest build. I used the 17134.1 USB to do a clean install on my latest machine, that's on 17134.191 now and has no issues.

There are problems with each version/build of Windows and over time the updates generally fix the underlying problems.
There are websites that have the older iso.
Some end users have upgraded to the latest version/build of Windows and then after a number of days can no longer rollback.
Sometimes the computer or motherboard manufacturer may stop supporting drivers for the newer versions/builds and the Windows operating system may cause problems.
So in these cases it is useful to have older Windows iso.
Any iso should be able to be used for the Windows advanced troubleshooting menu.
So keeping an iso handy is a useful tool in the toolbox.

After performing a clean install with any iso you can then perform windows updates.
The latest windows iso may have shorter time periods for Windows updates.
Otherwise most iso can be upgraded to the latest version/build
