Try a different route to the UEFI:
Settings > Update and Security > Recovery > Restart Now > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart.
For Booting from a USB stick, similar route, no need to change boot order on mine:
Settings > Update and Security > Recovery > Restart Now > Use a Device > EFI USB device.
Oh and just to let you know Helmut I used the second way you suggested from above and it recognized the USB device and when off without a hitch.....And you were correct in noting that I didn't have too change the boot order!
