Windows 10 Pro Education Edition ISO?

    Hey WIndows 10 Forums!

I bought a secondhand PC and realized it came with Windows 10 Pro Education edition. Naturally, my first move is to wipe the preinstalled Windows install and run my own fresh copy. I plugged in my recent USB for Windows 10 64-bit, and when I plugged in the OEM Key, it said that the edition for the PC wasn't available. I checked the bottom of the PC and clearly the sticker says
"Pro Windows Academic Use." I'm wondering if there's a way to get a legal copy of the ISO for Windows 10 Pro Education.

    Thanks!

Get the 1803 ISO (sounds like you already have the iso with Pro and Home ).
Extract install.wim, mount Home index (2) and set-edition to ProfessionalEducation
    DISM.exe /Image:<path_to_mount_directory> /Set-Edition ProfessionalEducation
Unmount /commit, open the iso with an isohandler then replace the original install.wim with the modified one and save.

Because you already extracted the iso to usb, you can just copy install.wim from your usb to a hard drive, mount Home edition, change the edition, unmount /commit, then replace the install.wim on the usb with modified one.

Okay, just to make sure here are close to the steps I have done in case anyone else wants to do it. The Index for home ended up being Index 1 as Index 2 was for Windows 10 Home N.

Where C:\ is system drive and D:\ is Windows 10 Install USB that has already been created.
As per Microsoft Documentation on Windows 10 Build 1803 (Redstone 4).
    ===
    1) Open Command Prompt in Administrator
    2) copy D:\sources\install.esd %userprofile%\Documents
    3) cd %userprofile%\Documents
    4) DISM /export-image /SourceImageFile:install.esd /SourceIndex:1 /DestinationImageFile:install.wim /Compress:max /CheckIntegrity
    5) mkdir 17134ProEdu
    5) DISM /mount-wim /wimfile:install.wim /index:1 /MountDir:"%cd%\17134ProEdu"
    6) DISM /image:"%cd%\17134ProEdu" /Set-Edition:ProfessionalEducation
    7) DISM /unmount-image /mount-dir:"%cd%\17134ProEdu" /commit
    8) ren D:\sources\install.esd install_orig.esd
    9) copy install.wim D:\sources\install.wim

    10) Remove USB and install as normal.
I've never even heard of Windows 10 Pro Education before I got this computer. What are some of the extra things I can do with this version of Windows as opposed to Core/Home? Am I allowed to run this as a home user legally?

If your key works, I guess so.
You can look up the feature differences.

Although I doubt that it will be any issue, the education versions are variations of the Standard Pro Or Enterprise (which may be formed from the parent OS by use of the Group Policies). The thing that does give a small concern is that these are sold discounted to Educational establishments at a lower price. If Microsoft became aware that one of these discounted operating systems being used outside of it's designed market sector then they could take action on the key, but I think this is unlikely, as there are probably going to be a large number of these systems on hardware loaned out to students

Interesting. The computer I believe is a decommissioned laptop from a school district. It was received by a reseller who I purchased from. I guess it'd be fine from there as long as it was once used for the Product SKUs original purpose.

I don't think it is an issue. Seems to me it is similar to oem in the sense that the school presumably get a bulk discount. If the machine is sold on, the os goes with it.

I can get keys for the Education edition via My Visual Studio Subscription. If I can so can a lot of others. Mine isn't tied to any organization etc, so my guess is Microsoft isn't going to be too concerned as to who is running it. I wouldn't think anyway.
No sign of Pro Education Edition on my subscription though? This is the first I've heard of it out in the wild. It is "Pro" Education, and not just Education right?
