My Windows 10 started upgrading from the pre2017 version to a more up to date version automatically but after an hour gave the reading it failed and gave error code 0x8007000d
I can restart and try again. Is this common?
Hi, failure to upgrade- assuming that's what's happened- is not uncommon. It's a complex process.
If you research the error number- which can be useful- you may find
I suggest you try two simple steps initially and see if it helps.Error code 0x8007000d means that there is a file that is needed by Windows Update, but that file is either damaged or missing. This won’t let you install any updates for Windows or any drivers, and it also won’t let you upgrade Windows 10 in case a newer version is available. Another potential cause may also be broken drivers as well.
1. Run the Window Update Troubleshooter (Settings, search for trouble)

When you try to upgrade again, please take the basic precautions recommended in this tutorial:

- uninstall any AV or security software
- disconnect any unnecessary peripherals
- try a clean boot if necessary
Make sure you have at least 25Gb free on your C: partition

You can do the upgrade manually- download the iso, mount it, view the new 'drive' in file explorer and run setup.exe
This means it's under your control and could save repeat downloads for reattempts.
