For what its worth, the latest listed on My Visual Studio subscription is "Windows 10 (consumer editions), version 1803 (Updated Jul 2018) (x64) - DVD". There was a new ISO released there for 1803 in March as well.
The basic rule of thumb as far as the MCT download goes, is redownload the latest version of the tool, and run that version to get the latest ISO via that tool. If you run an older version you have saved from before, all you'll potentially get is an older ISO.
1. Do you guys run the Media Creation Tool directly from the Microsoft page or do you Download/Save the MCT to your desktop first and run it from there? I am a bit wary of saving the Media Creation Tool and saving to my desktop in case it doesn't work because on reading the instructions for the MCT on the Microsoft download page it says to run the tool from the website.
2. Is there a link to a Microsoft page which tells you the latest build and date of release which would have shown that there was a newer version of the 1803 ISO released in July 2018..after the 1803 ISO which was released in March?
3. Just out of curiosity. Lets say you had version 1703 or any of the older Windows 10 versions on a flash drive. Would you be able to use that to clean install Windows 10 to bring you right up to date to version 1803? Or would there likely be issues?
If you had the older windows install media on usb (as it happens, I have kept the USBs for all previous versions) and used that to install Windows 10 the first thing it would do once installed would be to download the latest cumulative update.
The second thing it would do is download the 'Features Update to Windows 10, version 1803'. This is basically all the install files required to upgrade to 1803, some 3GB of downloads. You would get a working 1803 in the end, but it makes more sense and would take less time to use the MCT to download the 1803 ISO/USB and install 1803 in the first place.
Thanks for that Bree. I was just wondering if you had no way of downloading the very latest update if an older Windows 10 ISO could be used and it seems it can if required. I wondered why another Windows 10 1803 ISO was released in July to replace the March 1803 version. I had read that the March version had problems updating?
Have you any feedback on my other two questions?

I always download the MCT first and run it from my PC to make an ISO or USB. In fact, I have kept the older MCTs as (up to and including version 1703) they will still make the ISO for the older version (whichever one they were issued for) - something I find useful at times. From 1709 onwards the MCT will check for a newer version and tell you to download that.
I think MS advise running the MCT from the page as it has two functions. The second is to make ISO or USB media, but its first function works like the Update Assistant, it will upgrade your current Windows in-situ.
I am not aware of anywhere MS announce that they have updated the current ISO that the MCT will download.
