    After install, 1st boot always fails, retry succeeds


    I recently purchased a Dell Latitude E6430, which is exhibiting a rather odd problem. I removed the included 5400RPM 500GB hard drive and replaced it with an SSD. The first Windows 10 installation attempt failed with a message to the effect that there were no bootable partitions. Following some online advice, I reset the BIOS (which switched from legacy to UEFI mode) and tried to reinstall. This got me further.

    Now at first boot, I see a prompt that says "No bootable devices" followed by a prompt to hit F1, F2 or F5. Hitting F1 tries to boot again - and the second attempt succeeded. The laptop booted up and I was able to complete setup.

    But now every time the laptop boots, I'm presented with this annoying prompt. So far hitting F1 to retry boot has always succeeded. Not sure what the problem might be. I tried "cleaning" the disk once with BOOTPART from the recovery shell, but that did not improve the problem once Win10 was re-installed.

    Any other suggestions?

    What is selected under the Boot order ? What ever it might be have the hard drive selected first in the boot order and make sure to save it that way ... See if that does it

    Disable Fast Startup from Power menus.

    In case anyone ever runs into this problem (it seems pretty uncommon), I actually had to manually create my own UEFI "boot profile". I manually add a boot item called "Windows Boot", selected /EFI/boot/BOOTX64.efi as the boot file and then rebooted.

    For some reason, the default file entry was something completely different. I'm not sure if the Windows installer or a flaky UEFI implementation was to blame.

    Its funny I read were by others with the same problems suggested to change the setting in the bios from SATA to AHCI and reinstall windows. Also, disabling RAID, Legacy Boot, the cloning software don't work, I think my favorite is this one >>> the ssd drive is a little thinner than the usual hard drive so that it did not get into contact with the slot . I resolved it by sticking some layers of tape on the tip of the ssd in order to make it apparently thicker, funny thing is others had said it worked lol ... So it seem there are a few things going wrong
