The last time I used MCT to get the downloads [2 weeks ago] I got Version 1803 Build 17134.1 then I let it do the updates [kept hitting Check for updates] which got it up to Build 17134.48 then to 17134.81 and now it's on 17134.137.

No I didn't fail the in place, I wanted to do one. I have 2 other iso's and wanted the latest one. Does it matter which version of the ISO i use?
To do an in-place upgrade repair install you need an iso of the same build and base language as your existing Windows installation, and of course x32 or x64 as appropriate.
The tutorial on in-place upgrade repair install covers that.

If your existing Windows is 1709, you need a 1709 iso. If you use an 1803 iso, you will upgrade. Etc.

You can download an iso thus:
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums
    post#3 - see Microsoft ISO.

If you can't use the MCT, you could download an iso directly, but you have to be careful you get the right one.

Just get the W10 Iso version you want from here.

    TechBench by WZT (v4.1.1)

But I think he fixed the MCT issue he was having.

Calendar and Mail are built-in apps-come with Windows- perhaps you're seeing an update fail?

No I don't think so, I have been having problems since the April update. Some apps work and some don't, I couldn't even get store to open, now I can after I did the in place install but it won't install the apps, it downloads but doesn't install, I get that error.

Must disagree. Look at this tutorial about built-in apps. Search for Mail and Calendar.
Reinstall and Re-register Apps in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

    I get that error.
    - sorry, which error?

If an in-place upgrade repair install fails, please post screenshot of any error messages.

Suggest you run some basic tests:
    1. First check your disk:
Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and make sure all disks are reported as good.
If not, do not continue, and post a screenshot of its GUI.

    2. Now check your file system:
From an admin command or powershell prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /scan

    Post the result.

    Thanks.

Now I have tried every fix I can find in these forums and internet and none work. If I re register the store apps most of them won't register and I lose my start menu.
