Drive has probably failed. Try this.

Run admin command prompt and type

    list disk

select disk n (n is number of usb drive)

clean (wipes drive - do not select wrong drive!)

    create partition primary

    select partition 1

    format fs=ntfs quick

If any step fails, drive has almost certainly failed.

Well in used a win 7 computer to check my usb/usb and they formatted fine on the first time. I also downloaded a clean msdn Iso to reinstall both computers. Does anyone know why this happened. I was using team is isos may be they was the problem

I once had a problem similar to yours with a USB stick, and the only way to re-format it was by using the diskpart procedure ( as shown by cereberus ) BUT only after replacing the "format fs=ntfs quick" command with "format fs=ntfs" which performed a full format of the USB stick. ( I can only presume that the full formatting command does some low level error checking ? )

The USB stick had been working working perfectly in a Windows XP desktop, and also worked perfectly on a Windows 10 desktop for some time, before I decided to re-format it, at which point neither the XP nor the 10 desktops could do it through the graphical format utilities on those machines. The diskpart procedure did not work until I let it do a full format.

Is it possible that Windows 10 could have some how messed around with the partition table or something whilst scanning it?

    I have no idea.
