    Welcome to TenForums @shaun51

Usually a failed upgrade like that is due to an incompatible driver in the current Windows, or a 3rd-party AV that's not cooperating with Setup. Were there any error codes reported? That usually helps identify the cause.

One workaround is to uninstall (or at least turn off) any non-MS AV. It may also help if you boot to Safe Mode before trying to run the upgrade.

The error code is important.. it will alert to the phase in which it breaks.

I don't think safe mode is a good installation environment... it's for recovery - rather isolate the problem first. Having said that Win 7 drivers are a problem compared to Win8...so upgrading the offending driver in that case may be an alternative.

You can test it with Memtest86+. Download the 'Auto-installer for USB Key' and run it to make a bootable usb. Boot from that usb to test your RAM.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

If you find errors, try reseating the RAM and test again.
